Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the problems experienced by parents with mentally disabled children
during adolescence with their children. Descriptive research model from research methods was used in the study.
The study group of the research consisted of a total of 20 people, 13 mothers and 7 fathers, who had mentally
disabled children during adolescence living in Osh region of Kyrgyzstan. The data were collected by semistructured interview method. Content analysis method from qualitative analysis technique was used to analyses
the data obtained as a result of the research. As a result of the research; it was concluded that mentally disabled
individuals do not obey and are very aggressive when they reach adolescence, their sexual interests and desires
start during adolescence and they quickly forget what they have learnt, some of them try to make friends while
others, on the contrary, start to close themselves in the room and do not want to meet with anyone. While it was
observed that crying behavior of children with intellectual disabilities increased during adolescence, some of
them started to laugh excessively. While some children with intellectual disabilities did not have problems in selfcare skills during adolescence, it was concluded that some of them started to give importance to their
appearance.
