Today, relationships between countries are developing rapidly in commerce, politics, education, economy and other
fields. Hence, there is a growing need for translators who are aware of the special features of intercultural
communication and who can provide quality translations. Moreover, the skills of translators who are able to compete in
the job market are all gained in the course of studying at translation studies program. In this respect, the methods and
strategies used in translation studies programs are of particular importance. This paper discusses the methodological
problems of teaching translation within the framework of translation science and the teaching methods used today.
After classifying the teaching methods depending on the type of translation and the characteristics of the source text,
the most effective of them for the educational process and translation teaching were identified and evaluated from a
practical point of view. Besides, having discussed the characteristics of the cultural aspects of the typologically different
cross-language translation process, the role of the relationship between the native and the foreign language for
students in translation studies has been emphasized. The paper focuses on Russian-Turkish translation studies. We have
identified the most appropriate teaching methods that can be used to eliminate the problems encountered in teaching,
to make the training more efficient and to provide the students with the relevant skills, which are provided in the
conclusion part. The research shows that the teaching methods used in translation teaching should be appropriately
selected as they may vary depending on the students' native and foreign language proficiency levels and their
background knowledge.
