Abstract

Despite the fact that it is impossible to trace the origin of proverbs, they are an integral part of every language.
Proverbs reflect the philosophy of life, life experience, spiritual and material wealth of the people, their mentality and
peculiarities of perception of the surrounding world. Proverbs are a source of information not only for linguistic
research, but also for research in cultural studies, sociology, psychology and other disciplines. Therefore, the
interdisciplinary study of proverbs is of particular importance. The Kyrgyz language is very rich in proverbs. They can be
considered as separate groups that reflect the culture, mentality and values of the Kyrgyz people. This paper studied
Kyrgyz proverbs of the concepts of language and word, defined their role in the daily life of the people and
communicative functions. For this purpose, proverbs were classified according to their meaning and functions. The
equivalents of Kyrgyz proverbs in the Turkish language were selected; also the meaning of non-equivalent proverbs
was described. The research employed such methods of scientific research as descriptive, comparative and distributive
analysis. As a result of the study, a significant similarity between the Turkish and Kyrgyz languages has been identified,
not only in terms of culture, but also in terms of the existence of common proverbs with similar meanings. Also, many
common and similar meanings and functional features of the two languages have been revealed. This fact can be
regarded as evidence of a similar mentality, shared cultural heritage and values of the Turkic peoples.
